This category enables schools to set up their own tools or strategies to help them assess their own environmental impact and ways of enhancing a more sustainable use of resources, which include water, energy, land, air quality and waste. Only schools that have successfully gone through this process will be considered for the nomination.
Best Environmental Educator:This award is given to those schools that sent their teachers for training and see to it that sustainability concepts are being integrated into their day to day teaching across different subjects.
Best Outdoor Education:Learning by doing is the easiest and most practical way to instil and impact knowledge on the learners. Thus, field trips encourage a “hands-on” learning experience.
Best Community Outreach:This award is given in recognition of the efforts made by the students to reach the community and make a positive change in their environment.
Best Lead School:This award is given to those schools that adopted sustainability principles and made them part and parcel of their daily practices. The additional challenge they faced is that they took several new schools under their wing and guided them to become more sustainable.
In addition to winning shields, winning schools receive a monetary award that has to be used for the school’s green improvement projects and fed back into the SSI implementation for the next cycle.
